What will my web address be?
http://www.newpaltz.edu/~youruid
is the URL or web address of your space
OK.. Now that I’ve made a page, how will people know about it?
Faculty/Staff: Publicizing Your Page
At this point, if you are satisfied that your home page works, send an e-mail to the Web Coordinator (webmaster@newpaltz.edu) FROM YOUR campus e-mail ACCOUNT and your page will be added to the Faculty/Staff Pages. Please note: Only those pages that are in compliance with the Web Accessibility Guidelines and the SUNY New Paltz Web Guidelines will be linked.
Why am I forbidden?
If you go to your page, and it comes up with an error message like this:
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access “…(whatever)…” on this server.
Then you need to open up WinSCP and change the permissions (rights) on your files. Do the following for each file in your web directory:
- Click on the file once and hit the F9 key on your keyboard.
- You will then see the following window:

- In the box called “Octal”, type in 755 and then click OK.
- Try your page again. If you still get permissions errors, reload the page using the “reload” button in your browser. If you still have problems, make sure that each file in your web directory is set to 755.
