Terminal Services

Terminal Services makes some academic software available to users of common operating systems (MAC/PC/Linux) from virtually any location (on or off campus) where a network connection is available.

This service is available to all current SUNY New Paltz Students, Faculty, or Staff with a NPCUID. Software called a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) client is required to connect. This software is included in Windows XP and Vista. A free download is available for Mac (see below) and Linux (see Full documentation) computers.

Note: If you are experiencing difficulty accessing your N: (NP) drive through “My Documents” in Terminal Services, please see Universal Password Reset.

As of now, the following software is available:

Microsoft Office 2003
Matlab R2006
Mathematica 6.0
SPSS 15.0
Minitab 15
OpenOffice 2.3
ArcGIS
Python 2.4

Quick Guide for Setup of Terminal Services

Part 1: Open a “Remote Desktop Client”

Windows XP
Click Start > Run
    Then type mstsc.exe

Windows Vista
Click Windows Icon (lower-left)>All Programs>Accessories>Start>Run…
    Then type mstsc.exe

MacOS
  1.  Have STUFFIT EXPANDER installed.
  2.  Download RDC103EN.dmg or later.  (login required)
  3.  Open the file and copy Remote Desktop Connection to the applications folder
        Drag the application shortcut to your doc (optional)
  4. Open this application from its new location

Part 2: Connect to Terminal Services

1. For “Computer”, type the following:
      termserv.newpaltz.edu

Note:  Under “Options” you can change a lot of settings that will help you save files and display different window sizes–for more detailed information, see full documentation.

3. Enter your NPCUID/password and click “Login
