Teaching & Learning Center Student Technical Assistant

Job Description: Teaching & Learning Center Student Technical Assistant works to assist the co-directors of the TLC and members of Academic Computing by providing technical support in person, over the phone, and through e-mail.

Requirements: Prefer a graduate student who can work a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum of 15 hours per day during core campus hours.

Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of Windows XP and Vista; willing to work with MAC OS X.
  • Must be able use scanners, cameras (still and video) and other devices used in the TLC.
  • Must have flexibility and patience to assist faculty with new software or new versions of existing software.
  • Familiarity with video and / or image editing using Windows tools. Photoshop skill a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of campus computing environments: Blackboard, my.newpaltz, npmail, etc.
  • Use of Social Network sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Ning and 3D and virtual environments such as Second Life.
  • Able to assist in creation or update of faculty web content.
  • Friendly presence and helpful attitude; excellent communications skills. A good phone presence is crucial. Good command of the English language is essential.
  • May be asked to do some clerical duties when the TLC hosts visiting scholars or sponsors a conference.
