Settings for Pop-Up Blockers

…and “Trusted Sites”

When using our Academic Computing services on the web, including Blackboard and my.newpaltz, you may get some messages from your browser that pop-up boxes have been blocked. In order to avoid these messages and use our services to the fullest extent, you should follow these directions for setting your pop-up blockers.

The following sites should be allowed to have pop-ups:

blackboard.newpaltz.edu
my.newpaltz.edu
www.artstor.org
newpaltz.horizonwimba.com

Firefox

To allow these pop-ups in Firefox, follow these steps:

  1. In the Firefox window, go into the Tools menu and click Options.

  2. In the Options dialog box, click on Content. The checkbox for “Block Popup Windows” should be checked.

  3. Click on the button that says “Allowed Sites,” and you will see the following dialog box:

  4. For each site, fill in the “Address” box and click “Allow.” When you are done, click “Close.”

Internet Explorer

To allow pop-ups for important sites in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

  1. In the IE window, click on the Tools menu, and then click on Internet Options.

  2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click on the Privacy tab, and you will get the following window:

  3. The “Block pop-ups” box should be checked in. Then click on the Settings… button. You will get the following box:

  4. Add all of the sites to the “Allowed sites” list. When you are done, click Close.

Also, Blackboard should be added to your list of Trusted Sites for Internet Explorer.
To do this…

  1. In the IE window, click on the Tools menu, and then click on Internet Options.

  2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click on the Security tab, and you will get the following window:

  3. Select the Trusted Sites(green checkmark), then click on the Sites button. You will get the following box:

  4. Add https://blackboard.newpaltz.edu to the list. When you are done, click Close (and then “OK”).

Please note that you must type “https://”–Internet Explorer will not add your trusted site without the s!
