OS Updates

All computers connected to the SUNY New Paltz network must have all of the current "critical" OS updates. The easiest way to have all of the updates is to set your computer to download the updates automatically. In Windows, you can follow these instructions:

  1. Go into your Start menu and click "Control Panel."
  2. In Control Panel, find "Automatic Updates."
  3. Set it to "download and install updates automatically." You can choose what time of that day that you want them to be downloaded. In Windows XP SP2, the control panel looks like this:

If you are running an OS other than Windows, refer to the operating system’s documentation to learn how to update your computer. While most viruses and spyware are written for Windows computers, Macintoshes are also vulnerable to security issues.
