ResNet Participant’s Agreement
Residents who use ResNet (Participants) must agree to some fundamental requirements and regulations to make the students Ethernet connectivity experience function smoothly, effectively, and painlessly. While the college maintains the infrastructure, the student should be aware of the following:
- ResNet is provided with the understanding that its primary use is as an academic tool. A student’s connection / participation may be suspended at any time for violating the rules governing the use of the network and computing services at the SUNY – New Paltz.
- Students must have a computer system that meets the minimum requirements for ResNet use.
- Only the Student’s computer system registered with ResNet may be attached, directly or indirectly, to the network connection provided. Attaching another computer or LAN, doing network routing, doing network serving that interferes with College provided services, or using any other type of connection is not permitted.
- Network access is not permitted for non-affiliates of SUNY – New Paltz.
- The network connection may not be used to attempt unauthorized access to any system, or files of any system, or restricted portion of the SUNY – New Paltz networks, to monitor College network traffic, or to otherwise interfere with the operation of the College’s networks.
- Participants are reminded that sharing of copyrighted materials over the network such as software, music, images, publications, or any other protected materials is a violation of Federal copyright statutes and is strictly prohibited.
- ResNet Student Staff may require access to the student participant’s computer(s) to maintain network hardware and software. This will be done only after the student participants have attempted to resolve the problem on their own computer. The following is the “first line” of support that should be taken.
- The student will receive phone support by contacting the Student Help Desk (3597).
- The student can report problems by participating in a web conference that has been set up for use by ResNet student participants.
- Students agree to abide by the license agreements governing the use and distribution of the software installed on their machines including any software acquired with the purchase of the Ethernet card.
- Students are responsible for any and all messages or communications originating from their networked computers.
