The Residence Hall Network (known as “ResNet“) provides an Ethernet based network connection in every residential dorm room. This network connection provides access to the greater campus network and the Internet at speeds comparable to home broadband connections.

This service is available to all resident students who have a personal computer or game console equipped with an appropriate network interface and is funded through a fee in your Room Rent. In order to use ResNet you will need a computer or device that has an Ethernet adapter and meets the minimum requirements needed.

Free Antivirus: All students can download and use Symantec Antivirus on their personal computers as long as they are a student at SUNY New Paltz. If you are running Windows there is no reason not to have up-to-date Antivirus software on your computer! You can download your free copy of Symantec Antivirus and find installation instructions on the antivirus website:

Ethernet Network Cables and Cards: Ethernet cables and Ethernet cards for desktop PCs (in PCI form) are available for loan from the Student Help Desk. The Student Help Desk is located in HUM 103. (Ethernet adapters for laptop computers are not currently available.)

Support and Reporting Problems: If you have a problem with your computer being unable to use the ResNet service you are encouraged to report such issues through our Problem Report website. You will be brought to a login page and will need to fill out a problem report. You can also contact the Student Help Desk at 845-257-3597 (x3597) or you may bring laptops and other portable devices to the Student Help Desk in HUM 103.
