Using nVu and WinScp
1. Download Nvu Software
Go to http://www.download.com/Nvu/3000-2048_4-10412423.html and choose the appropriate version of Nvu. For example, if you are running Windows, right click on “nvu-1.0-win32-installer-full.exe”. Choose “Save Link as…”, etc..
2. Install Nvu Software
Find the file you just downloaded and double-click it. Say “Yes” or “OK” to all questions until you reach a “Finsh” button. Open up the Nvu program.

3. You need to load either a template to start a new page, or your old page for editing.
From the File menu, choose “Open Web Location…”
If you are starting a new site and need a template, enter:
www.newpaltz.edu/~smithl/template
Or–if you are updating an existing site, enter your site’s address.
For example, www.newpaltz.edu/~waiteb would work.. if I had a page there that I wanted to update.

4. Make changes! The Nvu editor is similar to any other publishing software you might be used to (Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, etc.).
If you are using my template, be sure to delete any “dummy” text that does not apply to you.
Also, you may wish to provide a picture of yourself (instead of that line art picture). To add a picture, simply “drag and drop” an image file from a folder–right into the Nvu window.
5. To “Publish” your updated site, choose “Publish As…” from the File menu. You will need to fill in the correct information for both tabs in the Publish Page window:
Publish–
- Site Name- does not matter what you call this.. I used “go”
- Page Title- this is what people will see up at the top of the window (blue bar)
- Filename- unless you are doing something fancy… always use index.html
- ! Do check the box for “Include images and other files”
Settings–
- Site Name- (still does not matter)
- Http address…- http://www.newpaltz.edu/~yourNPCUID/
- Publishing address- ftp://shell.newpaltz.edu/public_html/
- User name- your NPCUID
- Password- s plus the last 6 of your social security #

…then hit Publish.
