NPMail
The Web-based email solution @ New Paltz
npmail is the easiest way to access your campus e-mail account through a web browser.
npmail is a graphical, web-based interface to your incoming e-mail. If you can access the Web, you can get your campus e-mail over the Internet using a graphical Web browser. In addition to standard e-mail functions, you can send (and receive) messages with attachments.
To send file attachments, a Web browser that supports HTTP File upload must be used. Web browsers that support HTTP file upload include any release of FireFox, Netscape v6.x or later, or Internet Explorer v6.0 or greater.
To use npmail, make sure your account is working and that you know your username and password. Start your web browser and connect to:
Enter your NPCUID and password. Click Log In.
NPMail will let you:
- Read and compose e-mail
- Delete existing messages
- Move existing messages into folders you create
- Add a signature to your messages
- Create an address book
- Create a distribution list
Please note that the following instructions assume that you are using the default “look/skin” in NPMail, which is “Yahoo-Look.” If you are not using this “skin,” go to Settings and switch the skin to “Yahoo-Look.” You will need to click Update at the bottom of the screen. Then you must log out and log back in to see the changes.
Your Inbox / Reading E-mail
Messages can be sorted by clicking on the column heading (Status, Subject, From, Size, Received). By default, NPMail will sort mail by date received with the most recent messages on top.
If the e-mail you receive contains an attachment AND you want to save the attachment, right click (MAC users Ctrl-click) on the link to the attachment and save the file to your desktop or a folder of your choice. To view without saving, click on the link to the attachment.
Sending E-mail / Attachments / Spell Check
In the main NPMail window, you will see a button called Compose in the upper left hand corner. When you click on that, you will get a new message window. In this window, you can fill in the To: field and enter your message.
To add an attachment to a message that you are composing, slide to the bottom of the window, click Browse, find and highlight the file to be attached and click Open. If you want to remove an attachment before sending the e-mail, just delete the file path from the Attach: field.

To check the spelling, click the Check Spelling button. Select the correct word from the drop down box next to a misspelled word.
When you are ready to send your message, click Send. If you are not ready to send your message but would like to save it for the future, click Save in Drafts. It will be saved in the Drafts folder until you decide to send it at a later time.
Address Book
To build your address book, click on the Contacts button. In the Contacts window, you can add, delete or use contacts. To create a distribution list, click on New Group. A new window will be displayed.
In this window, fill in the “Real Name” and e-mail address parts of the “New Member” line. Then click Add. Repeat this process for every person that you want in the distribution list. When you are done adding people, click Save.

To send a message using a distribution list or a person from your contacts list, click Compose. Note that you must be in your Inbox or another mail folder to see the Compose button. In the new message window, you will see a button called Address Book in the upper left corner. Click on it. When you get the Address Book window, change the “Displaying” drop down box to “Contacts.” Then click Filter. You will then see your contacts and distribution lists (groups) listed. Choose a person or group from the list and click To, CC, or BCC. NPMail will then fill in the field that you specified with the address(es) that you wanted to use.

Creating Mail Folders

To create a folder, click on the Add link in the upper right hand corner of the NPMail screen. In the box that says “Mailbox Name,” type in the name you want for the folder, and then click Create. You will then see your new mailbox listed in the mailboxes list.
Moving, Copying and Deleting Mail
To delete a message which is open, click the Delete icon. If you want to delete several messages at once, click in the check-box next to each message you want to delete. Then, click the Delete button. If you want to select ALL messages, click in the check-box next to “Status” in the upper right corner.
Note that deleted messages are stored in the “Trash Can” folder, even after you delete the messages from your mail folder. To permanently delete the items, restoring your quota, you will need to click the Empty link next to “Trash Can” in the folder listing.
The move and copy functions work similarly. Check in the boxes next to each of the files that you want to move or copy. Then, at the bottom of the page, select the mailbox that you want to move or copy the files to. Then click Move or Copy.
