Ideally, a Universal Password helps to ensure that you will have access to almost all of our computing services with just one NPCUID authentication. For most new and recent accounts, the Universal Password is automatically set up. For some, a reset is required.

A common symptom of having a “non-Universal Password” is having difficulty accessing your N: (or NP) drive through Terminal Services.
